Black River
About
When an old man sees an unidentified Civil War photograph of a woman in the newspaper, he begins a desperate search for a 160-year-old painting. If he can find it, and if the woman in the painting matches the photograph, it will prove his great-great-grandfather didn't run from battle—clearing a family name tarnished for generations.
He hires private investigator Sean O'Brien to find the mysterious painting. But O'Brien discovers it's linked to far more than family honor—a secret letter, a hidden map, and a trapdoor leading to a key buried in mud at the bottom of a river. A key that could unlock the darkest truths about the most horrific war on U.S. soil.
It's also linked to a new murder. Powerful forces will stop at nothing to keep the past buried, because bringing it to the surface will rewrite American history.
Another riveting thriller in the internationally popular Sean O'Brien series—where the sins of the past refuse to stay hidden.
Praise for this book
"Black River kept me on my toes! I love Tom Lowe's book's, They keep me mesmerized.
His style of writing is smooth and easy to read, It's very hard to get anything done around the house because I don't want to put the books down."
"No Woman, No Cry....
Somehow the song reminds me of portions of the book and how the story basically begins with a woman. Sean agrees to help a man find a painting based on a picture of a woman to whom he is related. Of course, nothing is quite that simple as Civil War secrets come into play and our hero is again placed in life and death situations."
"I love Tom Lowe's novels and can't wait to read his next one. From the characters: his dog Max, his fishing buddy Nick Cronus, and his friend Dave ex CIA agent - you will bond with all of them. A search for a missing painting from the Civil War will unlock murder and international intrigue which will keep you from putting this book down. Great author for a trip or just anytime."
"Mix buried treasure, murder and international intrigue and you get a little flavor of what's in store in Tom Lowe's Black River. Sean O'Brien starts with a simple investigation job that turns into anything but. The story moves quickly - the writing is straight forward and the action is hot and heavy."
